Farzana Biography
Farzana has played a number of supporting roles to several With-Profits Actuaries and Actuarial Function Holders of various UK life insurance companies and mutuals. She has acted as the project manager for the valuation teams of several UK life companies and Friendly Societies, with the responsibility of deriving key valuation assumptions to propose to the Board, producing the year-end FSA Returns, ICAs, and undertaking bonus investigations analysis.
Farzana has also carried out a number of Solvency II calculations, including Quantitative Impact Studies (QIS) and feasibility studies to develop capital efficient structures in view of Solvency II, for a variety of clients.
In addition, Farzana has been involved in mergers and acquisitions, and in Part VII transfer projects where a Milliman employee has acted as the Independent Expert. Her other experience includes Embedded Value work, reviews of Market Consistent Embedded Value (MCEV) and Asset-Liability Management (ALM) modelling (for both the asset side and the liability side).
Farzana has significant experience in the area of longevity risk and annuities, including liability valuation. Previous industry experience includes advising buyers and sellers of blocks of annuities, reviewing mortality projection models, and illustrating the payout on a longevity risk transfer from an investors' and trustees’ viewpoint. She has also undertaken a feasibility study of developing longevity swaps and bonds for an investment bank in Europe.
Farzana has co-authored publications and articles covering areas of annuities, enterprise risk management, and Solvency II, and regularly presents at industry conferences. In 2011, she co-authored a chapter in a book entitled "Longevity Risk."
